The Walled Garden Book a visit

Married between the beans and the roses

An acre of Victorian kitchen garden behind high brick walls. One wedding a week, May to September.

A wedding ceremony in a lush garden, guests seated under cream parasols in front of a table set for the vows.

About

Inside the walls the wind drops, the air warms, and everything grows.

The garden was built in 1861 to feed a house that no longer exists. We restored it bed by bed over twelve years, and it still feeds people: on your day, it feeds yours.

Before you book

An outdoor wedding venue in a garden with wooden steps and rows of chairs set out in the shade.

Flowers

Everything on the tables was growing that morning.

Our gardeners cut the flowers at dawn on the day: sweet peas in June, dahlias by August. No florist's foam, no air miles.

Food & drink

From the beds to the long table.

Our cook builds the menu around what is ready that week. You choose the style; the garden chooses the vegetables.

Before you book

A white pergola covered in climbing plants above a bed of pink flowers.

If it rains

The glasshouse seats seventy and the pergola keeps the ceremony dry. We decide together at nine on the morning.

A bride and groom walking through a long green tunnel of trees.

Numbers

Ninety at most, because the paths are narrow and the beds are planted. Small weddings get the same garden.

A blue and a green watering can standing in the long grass.

What grows when

May is blossom and peas, July is roses and beans, September is apples and dahlias. Pick your month by the colour.
