Small Jobs Co. The list, done in an hour 0117 496 0391

One handyman for the jobs too small for anyone else

Send me your list
A tape measure, a drill, pliers, an adjustable spanner and hex keys laid out on worn wood.

[01] About

I'm Joe. For twelve years I fitted kitchens. Now I do the jobs left over after the kitchen fitters, the plumbers and the decorators have gone home: the door that sticks, the shelf that never went up, the tap that drips at night.

You send a list. I tell you roughly how many hours it is. I turn up with the van, work through it top to bottom, and you pay for the time it actually took, rounded to the nearest quarter hour.

What's on most lists
A man in a cap and apron working at a wooden bench in a bare room, a yellow spirit level beside him.

[02] Jobs

Most lists are a mix of these. If it is on a list and it is not gas, roofing or rewiring, I can probably do it.

  • Hands adjusting the hinge of a white cupboard door with a screwdriver.

    [1] Doors and cupboards

Sticking doors planed, hinges tightened, handles and locks changed, cupboard doors that finally close.

  • Hands spreading filler from a scraper across a white wall.

    [2] Walls and shelves

Holes filled and sanded, shelves, mirrors, TVs and curtain poles put up level, the first time.

  • A man on a stepladder fitting something to the ceiling of a white room.

    [3] Up a ladder

Smoke alarms, light fittings swapped like for like, loft hatches and blinds.

  • Two people on ladders painting the front of a lilac house with green shutters.

    [4] Outside

Gates rehung, fence panels replaced, gutters cleared and window frames touched up.

A room under renovation with a stepladder, lengths of timber and paint tins on the floor.

No job too small. That is the whole business.

[03] Why the list

Hands guiding a track saw along a pale wooden board on the floor.

Most handymen charge a call-out for one job. I would rather do eight jobs in one visit and charge only for the time.

  • Honest hours

£48 an hour, quarter hours after that.

No call-out fee and no minimum beyond the first hour. Materials at cost, with receipts.

  • The van has it

    Screws, plugs, hinges, washers.

Most small parts are already in the van, so nobody waits for a trip to the shop.

  • Tidy by the end

    Dust sheets down, hoovered after.

The last ten minutes of every visit are for cleaning up, and they are on me.

Before I come round

  1. Write everything down, however small. A list of ten is better than a list of three.
  2. Add a photo of anything odd: a strange fitting, a wall that sounds hollow, a broken part.
  3. Have the things to hang ready. I bring fixings; you bring the mirror.
  4. Tell me about parking. The van is long and the tools are heavy.
