Dogs only · one studio · as long as the dog wants

Portraits of your dog, taken at the dog's pace

One room above the hardware shop, four painted backdrops and a bag of treats you're welcome to veto. Nobody is rushed out; the session ends when your dog has had enough.

How a session goes

Roughly like this, and it bends completely around the dog. The camera doesn't come out until they've sniffed every corner.

0:00Arrive, lead off, explore the room

0:10Treats, the squeaky stick, getting to know me

0:20First backdrop, sitting or lying, whatever comes

0:40A break, water, a walk round the yard

0:50Second backdrop, and you in a few if you want

1:10We look at the back of the camera together

Three ways

Same photographer, same care, same handover. The difference is where we are and how long it takes.

In the studio

An hour and a bit, one or two backdrops, one dog. The one most people book, and the one for a first time.

£120 · about 25 finished pictures

At your house

For nervous dogs, old dogs, and dogs whose favourite place is the third stair. Two hours, their own sofa, no backdrop at all.

The trick

Twenty minutes, one trick, one picture, framed. For the dog who can wave, and the owner who has been waiting to prove it.

Four backdrops

Painted walls, not paper, so claws don't tear them. Pick one before you come, or bring a photograph of the dog and we'll choose together.

What you get, and when

Written down, because it's what people ask most on the way out.

Every good frame
Not ten chosen for you. Everything in focus with eyes open, edited the same way, at full size. Usually between twenty and fifty.
Ten days
From the session to the link. Three favourites on the evening of the day, because nobody can wait ten days for their own dog.
Print whatever you like
Full licence, forever. Or order prints from us; we use one lab and we check every one before it's posted.
Old dogs, last sessions
If your dog is very old or very ill, ring us. We'll come to you within the week and the session is at cost.
Treats
Chicken, cheese or nothing. Tell us about allergies, or bring their own; about half of our regulars do.
If it doesn't work
Some days a dog just isn't in the mood. We stop, and you come back another day at no charge.

Deposit is £30 and holds the time. Cats, rabbits and one tortoise have been photographed here too; ask first, and bring a carrier.

Nine years, about four thousand dogs

I photographed weddings for six years and dogs at the weekend, until the dogs took over. The best sessions are with the dogs everyone says won't sit still; they're the most honest pictures in the book.

There's a shop cat, Moth, who is not in any of the pictures and would like it kept that way. She stays downstairs.
