A football match at night on a dark pitch lit by a single bank of floodlights. A runner in a club vest striding along a red track beside a park on a sunny day.

Sunday matters too

Photographs of the sport nobody else photographs, in and around Sheffield.

Behind the lens

A blurred close-up of a runner's legs mid-stride on a road.

I'm Femi Adeyemi. I played centre-back badly for fifteen years, then picked up a camera on the touchline when my knee gave up. Pro sport has a hundred photographers. The under-twelves at Graves Park have me.

Last season, frame by frame

Four of 31,000 pictures from 2024–25. Every one of them went home to somebody's fridge.

What I cover

A football at a player's feet on bright green grass.

Junior football

Under-sevens to under-sixteens, Saturday mornings.

A player's foot striking a worn football on a dusty indoor court.

Five-a-side

Weeknight leagues under the lights.

Two players' legs tangled as they fight for the ball on grass.

Sunday league

Mud, shouting and the occasional wonder goal.

Hundreds of runners filling a tree-lined city road, seen from above.

Road races

10Ks and half marathons, from the start pen to the finish.

A player kicking a ball on an artificial pitch beside a goal, under a bright cloudy sky.

Non-league

Step five and below, home games only.

A runner in grey moving fast past the camera, background blurred.

Park runs

Free for runners, every first Saturday.

Before match day

  1. Every club I work with has a written photo consent form for under-18s. I bring a template if you need one.
  2. Children without consent are never published. Parents can ask for any picture to come down, any time.
  3. I hold a current DBS check and public liability cover, and send both before the first game.
  4. Tell me where I can stand. Behind the goal is usually best; behind the dugout never is.
