Four timber cabins standing among bare trees.

Four cabins in a wood that was here long before them

Two nights minimum·Sleeps two, or four in the long one·Open all year

01 — The wood

Eleven hectares of planted pine with a wet corner that we are slowly letting go back. You can walk out of the door into it without crossing a road.

02 — The cabins

Built from the trees we took out to make room for them. Wood stove, no television, and a kitchen that does one pan well.

03 — The quiet

No cars past the gate and no music outside after ten. That is the whole house style, and it is the reason most people come back.

A red cabin standing against the edge of a forest.

We would rather have you here for three nights than for one. Anything shorter and you spend most of it getting used to how dark it is.

The four of them

Pick the one that suits the weather

How booking works

De Donkere

€120 per night

Deepest in the trees and the warmest of the four. One window, on purpose, and a stove that will still be ticking at six in the morning.

A bedroom with plants along the wall and a wide window. Sleeps 2

De Groene

€120 per night

On the wet corner, so you wake up in the mist about half the year. The one we give people who say they want to read.

Check the dates
A plain, light bedroom with a bench at the foot of the bed. Sleeps 2

De Lichte

€135 per night

South side, and the only one with a bath. Bright enough in June that you will want the shutter closed by nine in the evening.

Check the dates
A long room with a sofa, a table and doors onto the trees. Sleeps 4

De Lange

€185 per night

Two rooms and a long table. Booked by four people who know each other well, or by two who brought too much work with them.

The main house at dusk with its windows lit.
The common room in the main house, lamps on in the afternoon.

Who you will actually meet

Two of us live at the gate, and one of us is always here when you arrive.

We bought eleven hectares of tired pine in 2014 with the idea of thinning it and building one cabin. There are four now, and the thinning is still not finished; that is roughly the speed everything here happens at.

You will get a text the day before with the gate code and the weather, and after that we leave you alone unless you knock. If something breaks we fix it that day, because there is nobody else to call this far out.

What we ask of you
  • Open all year
  • Wood delivered daily
  • Dogs in two cabins
  • No cars past the gate
  • Breakfast crate, €14
  • Bed linen included

Why two nights

The first evening goes on finding the light switches. The second one is the one you came for.

Written on the booking pageSince 2014

Moss and fallen needles on the forest floor.

Nights, minimum

2

Three from Friday to Monday, and a week in the school holidays. We would rather say that here than on a confirmation you have already paid for.

Before you book

Paying

Half on booking, half on arrival.

Bank transfer or card at the gate. No deposit.

Cancelling

Free up to fourteen days ahead.

After that half, and inside three days the whole amount, unless we can let it again.

Dogs

Two cabins, one dog each, €8 a night.

On the lead between the cabins, because of the deer and because of each other.

Heating

Wood stove only.

We deliver a crate a day. If that worries you in January, it should — bring a jumper.

Signal

Phone yes, internet barely.

There is a line in the main house you may use if something actually matters.

Children

Welcome, in De Lange.

The other three have a ladder to the bed and no rail; we will not pretend otherwise.

If you are reading this in February, that is the best month and almost nobody books it.

Call the gate
Ferns growing thick in the shade of the wood.

The gate is answered between nine and eight. If it rings out we are in the wood with a saw, and we will call you back the same day.
