Longlight PlanningBefore we meet

A plan for the years after work, on two sides of paper, from an adviser paid only by you

For people in the ten years either side of stopping. No commission, no percentage of your savings, nothing to buy at the end of the meeting.

See what it costs

The four questions people bring

Almost every first meeting starts with one of these. The plan answers all four, in pounds and in years, and says plainly where the answer is "it depends".

An older couple walking arm in arm down a tree-lined road, seen from behind.

When can we stop?

The earliest year that works, and what changes if you wait two more.

Two older people walking together down a garden path between tall plants, one with a stick.

Will it last?

Your pensions and savings laid out to age ninety-five, with a bad decade included.

An older couple walking hand in hand along a wooden boardwalk among trees.

Which pot first?

The order to draw on things so less of it goes in tax. Usually the biggest saving.

An older couple in sun hats sitting on a low wall looking out over vineyards and wooded hills.

What can we give?

To children or grandchildren, now or later, without leaving yourselves short.

What it costs, and how I am paid

By you, and only by you. I do not take commission from anyone and I do not charge a percentage of what you have. The price is the same whether you have saved £60,000 or £600,000.

Before our first meeting

Find the pension letters

The yearly statements from every pension, including the small one from the job you had in your twenties. If you cannot find one, bring the employer's name; we can trace it.

Ask for your state pension forecast

It takes five minutes online and tells you the date and the amount. It is the number everything else is built on.

Talk about one thing at home

What would a good ordinary week look like, after work? It sounds soft. It is the most useful number in the plan.

What I never do

Sell you a product, move your money for you, or tell you to buy anything in the first meeting. You leave with a plan, not a contract.

What clients do with the plan

An older man in a striped top leaning over a raised vegetable bed full of lettuces.

Stop on a date

Hand in notice knowing the numbers work, not hoping they do.

An older man in a cap photographing a bed of pink flowers in a park.

Go part-time first

Three days a week for three years often costs less than people think.

An older man with his hands behind his back looking closely at a rose bush in the evening.

Stop worrying

The answer most clients give a year later when we ask what changed.
