From the last three winters

Pictures made on workshops, by the people who came

The ridges of the Quiraing glowing at sunrise above a small lochan.
The Quiraing, October, sunrise
A long loch stretching between mountains at dusk, a monument standing on the near shore.
Loch Shiel, April, last light
Shaggy highland cattle resting in grass beneath bare, sunlit mountains.
Sligachan, May, mid-morning
A steep glen with a road winding along the valley floor under heavy cloud.

I'm Callum Fraser. I grew up in Fort William and have spent twenty years waiting in the rain for ten minutes of light. Lochlight is about teaching people to wait well.

Four people, one minibus

Small enough that everyone gets the good spot on the rock. We stay in one place, drive less, and go back to the same view on different mornings until the weather is right.

The rock pinnacles of the Old Man of Storr above distant lochs in soft golden light.

The philosophy

Be there early, stay late, and expect nothing. The best pictures on a workshop are rarely the ones we planned. They come in the twenty minutes after everyone else has packed up.

Before you book

You need to walk, a bit
Up to five miles on rough paths, carrying your own bag. Nothing technical.
Any camera that lets you choose
Aperture, shutter, ISO. A tripod helps; we have two spares.
The weather decides
We plan each day the night before. Some mornings we wait in the bus with coffee.
2026 dates
Skye in February and October, Glencoe in April, Assynt in May. Five days from £1,450, with rooms and breakfast.
