A fairway running downhill between rough grass.

Nine holes on a hill, open to anyone who walks up

Green fees and tee times

No membership, no waiting list, no committee deciding whether you may play. Turn up, pay at the hut, and go.

A player walking a fairway with a trolley.

Nine holes, twice if you like

2,940 yards off the yellows and a two-hour round on your own. Most people go round twice on a summer evening and are back in the car park before nine.

What a round costs
A green seen from above, bunkers on two sides.

The hill does the work

Six of the nine are played across the slope, which is why a course this short is not an easy one. The fourth is ninety yards and nobody parks it.

What to bring
The course from the air, fairways between trees.
First and second, from the hill behind the hut.
An aerial view of a green surrounded by rough.
The fourth. Ninety yards, and a burn in front.
Bunkers cut into a slope, seen from directly above.
Sixth and seventh share the bunkers on the slope.
The last fairway running back towards the buildings.
Ninth, back up the hill, into the wind most days.

Before you play

Booking
Saturdays and Sundays, by phone, from the Monday before. Weekdays never need booking and we would rather you did not.
What to wear
Anything, and shoes that will not wreck a green. That is the entire dress code and it is not going to grow.
Beginners
Very welcome, especially on a weekday evening. If you have never played, say so at the hut and somebody will walk the first two holes with you.
Dogs
On a lead, off the greens, and not on a Saturday morning. Ours is usually asleep by the door.
The hut
Tea, a roll and a scorecard. It shuts an hour before dark and the honesty box is on the shelf after that.
Winter
Open unless it is frozen. Temporary greens from December to February, and the fee drops to £8 while they are in.
