Licht

Uit

Four hundred and twelve lamps in the parish point sideways and up. We pay to turn them over, one street at a time.

Adopt a lamp
A single wide tree standing in an open field under the Milky Way.

Our Sky

Nothing here gets switched off. Every lamp keeps burning; it gets a flat shield and is turned to face the ground, which is where the road is. Afterwards the street is measurably better lit and the field behind it is dark again. Two hundred and six of the four hundred and twelve have been done since 2019, mostly in winter, mostly by two people in a hired cherry picker on a Tuesday.

€ 90 pays for one shield,
one bracket and one
hour of the cherry picker.

Adopt a lamp

Or a tenth of one, which is how most of it arrives.

Nothing is switched off
Every lamp stays on, all night, at the same wattage. This is about which way the light points, not about how much of it there is. If a street wants more light we will say so to the council with you.
Safety
We are not going to tell you shielded streets are safer. The evidence is thinner than both sides pretend. What we can show is the lux meter on the pavement before and after, and it goes up.
The trial street
One street has had it since 2019. Two households asked for their old lamp back and got it back within a week. That stays on the list with the rest.
What we do not do
We do not campaign against anyone’s porch light, we do not photograph houses, and we do nothing on private land unless the owner asks us to.
Overheads
Nobody is paid. The money goes to shields, brackets, the hired platform and the insurance that comes with it. Fourteen per cent went on insurance last year.
What we keep
A name and an address for the receipt, seven years, because the tax office says so. No newsletter unless you ask, and nothing is counted on this page.

Licht Uit is a fictional example. The parish, the lamp count and the amounts do not exist. Photographs are stock images and do not show this place.
