The same two midwives, from the first scan to six weeks after

Rhiannon and Joy. Every appointment, the birth wherever it happens, and your kitchen table afterwards.

How it works

Classes this season

Small groups, Thursday evenings, partners welcome

Hands making a heart shape on a pregnant belly in a brown jumper.

From 2 October · four evenings

Getting ready

What labour is actually like, in plain words, and what you can do in each part of it.

A newborn's tiny fist wrapped around an adult's finger.

From 6 November · three evenings

The first weeks

Feeding, sleep, crying and the questions you will be embarrassed to ask at three in the morning.

The silhouette of a pregnant woman holding her belly against a white background.

Every Saturday · drop in

Moving and breathing

An hour on mats, gentle and slow, for anyone from sixteen weeks. Bring water and a cushion.

A mother and father smiling down at a newborn wrapped in a starry blanket by a window.

Why only two of us

In a big unit you meet a different face at every appointment and a stranger at the birth. We take four families a month so that never happens. By the time you are in labour, we know how you like your tea and what you are afraid of.

We are both registered midwives with twenty-six years between us, eleven of them in hospital.

What the year looks like

The year, in four parts

Pregnancy

Monthly, then fortnightly, then weekly. At your home, never in a waiting room.

The birth

At home, at the birth centre, or with you in hospital as your advocate.

A newborn asleep on a soft white blanket, one fist by the face.

The first days

Every day for the first five, at whatever hour the visit is needed.

A baby's small feet resting in an adult's cupped hands.

Six weeks

A last long visit, a written summary, and a phone number that still works.

Before you book

When to ring

Any time before twenty weeks. After that we may still have room — ask; the worst we can say is no.

What we cover

All your antenatal care, the birth, and six weeks of postnatal visits. We work alongside your GP and the hospital, and we refer the moment anything needs a doctor.

What we do not

Scans, and births we judge unsafe outside a hospital. If that becomes the case, we come with you.

What it costs

£3,900 for the whole year, in six payments. We keep one place a month at no cost for families who ask.

Kin is a fictional example. Rhiannon and Joy, the practice, the classes and the prices do not exist, and nothing on this page is medical advice — talk to your own midwife or doctor. Photographs are stock images and do not show families of this practice.
