Two and three bedroom houses, built to last a hundred years
A small terrace by a local family builder on the old Hartley brickworks, ten minutes' walk from the station. Seven homes are sold, seven are still to choose from.
The idea
No show-home tricks. Solid brick walls, real oak stairs, a heat pump and solar panels on every roof, and gardens long enough for a washing line and a vegetable bed.
The builder
Hartley & Sons have built houses here since 1962. They live two streets away, and they will still be here when you need a door rehung in ten years.
The homes
Every house faces south at the back. Choose the brick, the kitchen and the tiles from our builder's yard before plastering starts.
A vaulted living room under the roof, with a big window over the garden. £364,000.
One open floor downstairs, two good bedrooms upstairs. £289,000.
Kitchen at the front, living space at the back, doors straight onto the patio.
Made by the joiner in the next village, from trees felled in the county.
Inside every house
Our estimate for a family of four is £65 a month for heating and hot water.
Downstairs throughout, so no radiators under the windows.
The railway is close; inside, you will not hear it.
Lined for a wood burner, if you want one.
Where it is
Primary school at the end of the road, a Co-op round the corner, and the canal path for the long way home.
Before you reserve
£500 holds a house for 28 days while your mortgage is arranged. If the mortgage fails, you get it back.
The first seven are finished. The second seven will be ready in March; we give you a week, not a season.
Fixed when you reserve. No management company and no ground rent: you own the house and the garden outright.
