Quay Street
A dark bar with one drink lit on the counter.

Twelve drinks, and a new twelve on the first

No bookings, no table service, and the last order is at half past eleven.

A small room that does one thing

Twenty-eight seats · one bar · two people behind it

Everything on the list is made from things we can buy within thirty miles or make ourselves, which is why there is no gin from Japan on it and never will be. The list changes completely on the first of the month; if you loved something in March it is gone in April and we will not make it for you, because then there would be thirteen.

We do not take bookings. On a Friday there is a queue from about nine and it moves, because most people have two and go somewhere else to eat.

Before you come

Bookings
None, for anybody, including for six people on a birthday. Twenty-eight seats and a book would take all of them.
The queue
Friday and Saturday from about nine. It moves in twenties. If the door is shut we are full, and somebody will open it when there is room.
Food
Olives, bread and one thing on toast. That is it, and it is not going to be dinner — we will tell you where to go for that.
Paying
Card only, per round, at the bar. No tab, no service charge, and the price on the list is the price.
Age
Over eighteen after seven, and we ask everybody who looks under thirty. Bring something; we are boring about this.
Last orders
23:30, lights up at midnight. The half hour is real and the lights are not a suggestion.
