Warmer old houses.Same old windows.
We draught-proof sash windows, doors, floors and lofts in Victorian and Edwardian houses. Nothing ripped out, nothing plastic.
An old house is not cold because it is old. It is cold because of a hundred small gaps. We find them, seal them, and leave the windows your house was built with.
Most of our work is in streets like this one, built between 1870 and 1914.
Everything an old houseloses its heat through
All our workSash windows
Overhauled, re-corded and sealed
Front doors
Brushes, seals and a new letterbox
Lofts
Topped up with sheep's wool
Shutters
Rehung, so they close at night
Why more old housesare staying old
A third of the cost of new windows
Overhauling and sealing a sash costs about £450. A new double-glazed one in the same style costs three times that, and the old glass is gone for good.

What we checkBefore you call usfour things to check
- Hold a lit candle by each window on a windy day. Where the flame leans, there is a gap.
- Look under the front door. If you see daylight, so does the wind.
- Push the bottom sash up gently. If it rattles, the beads are loose.
- Check the loft hatch. It is often the biggest hole in the house.
Questionseveryone asks
- Will my windows look different?
- No. The seals sit inside the frame. From the street nothing changes except that the windows open properly.
- Do you work in conservation areas?
- Yes. Repair and draught-proofing do not usually need permission, and we will tell you if yours does.
- How long does one window take?
- About a day each, including paint. A whole house is usually one to two weeks.
- Is it worth it if I plan to move?
- Working, sealed sash windows are something buyers of old houses look for. Most people get the cost back.
- Do you do secondary glazing?
- Only where sealing is not enough, in slim timber frames that lift out in summer.
