What a visit is

A carer holding the hands of a smiling older woman as she gets up from an armchair.

Getting up and going to bed

Washing, dressing, medicines, the kettle on. Never rushed.

A carer leaning over a table where an older man and woman are colouring and drawing.

Company

An afternoon of cards, a walk to the post office, a crossword done together.

A smiling carer in a blue uniform sitting close to a laughing older woman.

After hospital

Four visits a day for the first week home, then less as things settle.

An older couple dancing together in a bright day room while others watch. An older woman and man in wheelchairs clapping and smiling.

Wednesdays at the hall

Ten till three in Little Harwell village hall. Knitting, bingo, a man who plays the piano from memory, a hot lunch and a minibus there and back. Our clients come free; anyone else from the villages pays £12 with lunch.

Before the first visit

A cup of tea first

Our manager comes round for an hour, free, to meet you and anyone in the family, and to write the plan with you.

Who comes

Two named carers, who between them do every visit. You meet them both before they start.

Keys

A key safe by the door, fitted free, with a code only your carers and the office know.

What we will never do

Visits under forty-five minutes, or a carer you have never met turning up on a Sunday without a phone call first.
