Why Coilhouse

Most salons were built for straight hair

So most of us were cut wet, pulled straight and handed back a shape that sprang up two inches short. We opened Coilhouse in 2019 so that would never happen again. Every stylist here trained in curly cutting, and every one of them has curls.

What clients say

Heard in the chair

★★★★★

“Thirty-four years of hairdressers telling me my hair was difficult. Ninety minutes here and someone told me it was beautiful, cut it like she meant it, and taught me to do the same at home. I cried a bit. They have tissues.”

For you

Before your first cut

  1. Come with your hair dry and loose, styled the way you wear it most days.
  2. Skip the ponytail on the day. We need to see where the curls fall.
  3. Bring a photo of a day your hair looked its best, and one of a bad day.
  4. Leave ninety minutes. Talking about your hair is half of the appointment.

Do you have questions?

Frequently asked questions

Do you cut wet or dry?
Dry, almost always. Curls shrink when they dry, so we cut them as you wear them.
How often should I come?
Every three to four months for most curls. Coils can go longer between shape-ups.
Can I bring my own products?
Please do. We would rather teach you to use what you have than sell you something new.
My hair is only a bit wavy. Is it for me?
Yes. Many of our clients thought they had straight, frizzy hair until their first cut here.
