One wedding a weekend · eleven years · every frame handed over

I photograph one wedding a weekend and I am at all of it

No second shooter, no associate, no package where somebody else turns up. If you book me, I am the person at the back of the room at nine in the morning and the person outside at midnight.

Three ways to book

What a day looks like

Roughly this, every time, and it bends around whatever your day actually is. The two things that never move are that I arrive before anybody is ready and I do not ask anybody to do anything twice.

09:00Arrive, say hello, stay out of the way

11:30Rings, shoes, the letter, the nerves

13:00Ceremony, from the back, no flash

14:00Twenty minutes of family, from your list

15:00The two of you, about fifteen minutes

19:00Speeches, then the room as it gets loud

23:00Last frame, usually outside, usually the best

Three ways

Same person, same cameras, same handover. The only difference is how many hours I am there and whether there is a second day.

A woman in a light dress standing by the sea.

The ceremony

Four hours, from an hour before to an hour after. For registry offices, small rooms and the couples who want the photographs to stop when the party starts.

£1,100 · about 400 frames

A woman walking away down a road between trees.

The whole day

Nine in the morning until the room empties, whenever that is. This is what nine couples out of ten book and it is the one I would book.

£2,400 · about 900 frames

A woman laughing outdoors in low sunlight.

The whole weekend

The day before as well: the setting up, the arriving, the dinner where everybody meets. It is where the photographs nobody expected come from.

£3,200 · about 1,400 frames

A couple embracing under autumn leaves, seen wide.

What you get, and when

This is the part I wish somebody had written down for me when I was booking mine.

Every frame worth keeping
Not a selection of sixty. Everything that is in focus and not a blink, edited the same way, at full resolution. Usually between four hundred and fourteen hundred.
Three weeks
From the day itself to the link in your inbox. If it is going to be longer you will hear from me before the three weeks are up, not after.
A preview in forty-eight hours
Thirty pictures, the evening of the second day, because the first week after a wedding is strange and it helps.
Print whatever you like
Full licence, in writing, forever. Print them, put them on anything, hand them to your parents. I ask only that you do not crop my name off if you post them.
Two copies, two places
Cards are copied before I leave the venue car park. Everything sits on two drives in two buildings for five years, and I have never lost a wedding.
If I am ill
There are four photographers I trust and one of them will be there, at my cost, and I will tell you the moment I know. It has happened once in eleven years.

Deposit is £300 and it holds the date. The rest is due the month before. If you cancel more than a year out you get the deposit back, which is not standard and I have never regretted it.

Eleven years, about two hundred weddings

I started second-shooting in a wet field in 2015 and went on my own in 2017. Two bodies, four lenses, all of it paid for, none of it new. I have photographed in a cathedral, a launderette and a field with one tree, and the field was the best of the three.

I do not do engagement shoots, I do not do albums, and I will happily tell you who does both well.
