Furniture made from one tree at a time, and we will tell you which tree

Two benches, one kiln, and about forty pieces a year.

A low sofa with a cushion, against a plain wall.
Three-seat frame in ash, Northumberland, felled 2019.
A single armchair in a corner beside a lamp.
Reading chair in oak, with a linen seat that comes off.
A kitchen with a long worktop and open shelves.
Kitchen in one elm, eleven metres of it, fitted over four days.
A small wooden stool on a pale floor.
Stool, the first thing anybody makes here and the last we stop selling.
Chairs and a table in a bright room with tall windows.
Six chairs and a table, for a room with a floor we did not choose.
A living room with a low table and a wide window.
Low table in cherry, with the sapwood left in on purpose.
A long room with daylight down one side.

We buy standing trees from two estates within thirty miles, mill them ourselves and dry them for three years before anything is made. That is why the waiting list is long and why we can tell you where your table stood.

Before you order

The waiting list
Between five and nine months. We take a deposit only when your piece is next, not when you join, so joining costs nothing and you can leave at any point.
Choosing the wood
You come to the shed and put your hand on the boards. Photographs of timber are useless and we have stopped sending them.
Paying
A third when your piece starts, the rest on delivery. Bank transfer. We do not take payment in advance for something that does not exist yet.
Delivery
We bring it ourselves within a hundred miles, carry it in and take the packaging away. Beyond that it goes by a maker's carrier and costs what it costs.
Movement
Solid wood moves. A table will change across its width with the seasons, the joints are made for that, and it is not a fault — we would rather say so now.
Repairs
Anything we made comes back for repair at cost, for as long as the workshop exists. Bring it; do not buy a new one.
