Four classes, and that is all

A group class working through a sequence together.

Beginners, properly

Mon & Thu, 19:00 — 20:15

A dancer mid-turn in a bright room.

Second year

Tue, 19:30 — 21:00

A figure balanced against the evening sky.

Slow class

Wed, 11:00 — 12:00

A stretch held on the floor at the end of a class.

Saturday open floor

Sat, 10:00 — 13:00

You will be the worst one in the room for about six weeks

Everybody is, including the person teaching, who came to this at thirty-four. The beginners class is deliberately slow and deliberately repetitive, and the second year exists because most people want to keep going and there was nowhere to go.

A dancer against a plain coloured wall.

No mirrors at the back of the hall, and no photographs during class.

The only two rules, and the reason a lot of people stayed

Before you come

The first class
Free, and you do not have to say anything to anybody. Come ten minutes early, go home straight after if you want to; nobody will follow up.
What it costs
£11 a class, £90 for ten, or £44 a month for everything. The card does not expire and it is not refundable, which is the trade.
What to wear
Something you can move in and socks or bare feet. No shoes on the floor — it is sprung and it is the most expensive thing we own.
Missing a week
Nothing happens. The beginners class repeats itself on purpose so that missing one does not put you behind.
Age and body
Adults, any age, any body. If something hurts, tell us before the class rather than push through it — we will give you a different version of the same thing.
Watching
You can watch a class from the bench by the door, once. After that you are in it, because watching from the bench twice is how people talk themselves out of it.
A figure sitting still on the floor at the end of the evening.
